This project involves the conversion of an abandoned, double-fronted Victorian townhouse into four individual flats. The brief included the excavation of a new basement level to accommodate additional living space, allowing for a more efficient subdivision of the building.

Each flat comprises a living area with an open-plan kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. While the interior was reconfigured, the primary façade was carefully preserved to retain the character of the street. Original Victorian details—including sash windows and decorative elements—were restored, enhancing the building’s historic presence.

Drawing inspiration from the period architecture, traditional cornices and skirting boards were reintroduced to the two lower-ground flats, lending a subtle sense of continuity between old and new. Interiors were kept minimal, allowing future occupants to inhabit and personalize the spaces with ease.

Despite the constraints of the site, the design achieves a balance between spatial generosity and privacy, delivering four contemporary homes within a sensitively refurbished historic shell.
